This is to just share my journey. I would want to share only the highlights but there are so many and I don’t want to forget.
As the due date of departure approached, I made a list of all things I want to pack. It was perfect fr weekend trip experiences. I packed everything I wanted. Only regret bringing the iPad. Mistake.
So I’ve decided to put it to a good use, conserve essential battery and use up iPad battery for writing this.
So here we go.
I started packing around 8pm. Finished at 2am. In between, I kept getting distracted by cleaning, eating, laundry, shower, etc. I left at 9:03am. As soon as I got on i85, I felt chills in my head, neck, shoulder, fingers and right foot. Daunting darkness grew, how am I going to make this trip, I’m already cold. Shit. Did I pack too light? Will I survive cold mountain road and night riding? Well, let’s just fight it for now. I can hold it. Just go buy that down jacket.
I’m began the fight mode, from layback hippie mode. I’m beginning to lay all my options, plans and strategy to make the trip work with what I got with still being light and comfortable.
It’s a sense of survival I must enjoy. Why do I do this? Why risk to go to Mexico on a motorcycle?
I must enjoy what I get out of survival. Why else would I end up sleeping at a empty state park with warning signs all over the fences.
It was a almost eleven when I had my breakfast at chic fila. The day only getting warmer, I figured I melt my body, juveniate for the day. After breakfast took care of very Iimportant and rewarding and satisfying bathroom break. Adjusted balaclava with neck warmer, neck earbud, jacket collar and helmet. With all of these around the neck, I couldn’t turn my head well. I need to see my sides. New gears, new set up, I eventually figured it out at the last gas stop. Took 5 tries.
Four cars came close to me. As if they didn’t see me. It always happens but Not this many. Perhaps, going all black on a black bike had something to do with. Almost fell a sleep going 80mph. It gave me chills. Then back to sleepy. I didn’t want to pull over as I was racing against the day light. I fought a tough battle, then all of sudden, wide awake. As if the sleep decided to surrender.
Uncle called while buying pesos at the bank. He wants to compete with Korean Women’s Association with Home Care business. He says he is selling his hotel for a million. He is persistently bringing this up almost every time we talk. He says he is 70 years old. Will I have that kind of drive and eagerness at that age? I was thinking about it for some miles until I felt hot at 80mph. I pulled over. Took off gloves and neck warmer, opened the collar. Felt so much better, light, breezy, comfortable, and free.
By the time I got to the freeway exit of my destination it was already dark. Finally arrived at the Lausee Park. It was 7:30pm. Nobody was at the admission booth. I proceed. Camping Left. I make left. Then the fence blocks the road. Warning signs and staff only signs. What's going on? I go forward where it says cabin, that's when I realized, this park is dead. nobody here. no cars, no people. only the sound of insects. Every entryway to something is blocked off with the fence. Maybe the park is closed and they are trying to protect the entryways. I park the bike, hop the fence and go see the campground. There is nothing. No damage, no construction. Is this park closed? then why did they leave the gate open?
As I walk, I hear stepping noise. No lights. Must be some deer. What should I do? If my bike is only thing here, someone will notice it. In this big park, i'm only human alive. I pee, drink some water and think. Hmmm. Maybe I can sneak into one of those cabins. I walk over there and check. it's locked. Of course.
I could go find a motel. But I am low on gas. I don't know where a gas station in this area with nothing but mobile homes, forest and ocean. I have no cell signal. Ok. Let's just hide and pitch a tent and sleep here. Wake up at 5am.
I walk through the trees and pitched a tent. I took everything from the bike. I unpack everything and got settled. after couple hours go by. I here sound of a vehicle. Then I see lights. I immediately turn off my devices to stay dark. Pay attention to sound. I see lights coming through my tent. I am scared. Is someone walking toward my tent? Light stop moving. I hear noise around the bike. I hear metal clinking noise. Maybe some street thugs?
Then silent. no light. Then the vehicle that sounds like a truck drives off. Wheew. I relax. After about 15 min. I hear it again. A truck driving back and forth. Stopping. More metal clinking noise. Flash light moving around. I can see through my tent. Shit. Now they've found me or maybe they are trying to steal my bike. Well. if someone is stealing my bike, they will have to tow it. Then I should hear something louder from the tow truck. But I don't hear that. Then all of sudden
"hello~ HELLO~" a man's voice
I remain calm. Then I hear
"..... We .... ... lock the gate!" a woman's voice.
Then I see flash lights moving again. It must be a park ranger. Then it's safe. They are not going to steal my bike.
Later I hear some more metal clinking noise. I've decided that i'm not going out there. So I decided to close my eyes.
